In just one week, Coast Guard crews intercepted seven vessels carrying
migrants in the Florida Straits resulting in 58 people being repatriated
to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Wednesday, according to the Coast Guard.

The group of migrants were brought to Cuba on the Coast Guard Cutter
Charles David Jr., a 154-foot fast response cutter.

"Safety of life at sea continues to be the Coast Guard's primary
concern," said Capt. Mark Gordon, chief of enforcement for the Coast
Guard 7th District in a statement.

Since Oct. 1, the Coast Guard 7th District estimates that 2,562 Cubans
have attempted to illegally migrate to the U.S. by sea. In January
alone, 396 migrants were repatriated.
