Dutch firm to expand marina in Cuba

Amsterdam-based Romar Finance said it plans to expand the marina at
Tarará, a gated luxury community in East Havana. The company's
subsidiary, Romar Q-Hospitality, started plans for overhauling the
270-slip marina more than a year ago. The first phase will include
dredging, rebuilding and expanding the marina. The long-term plans call
for construction of a megayacht pier, luxury hotel, condominiums and
18-hole golf course.

Tarará was originally a resort built in the 1920s by US real estate
developers. It includes 400 homes, motel, cultural center, Che Guevara
museum and pool, and a cafeteria. Over the years, it has been a young
pioneer camp, a sanctuary for Ukrainian children sickened by the
Chernobyl nuclear disaster, and a home for Venezuelan patients in an eye
surgery program.
